Obituary

Augusta, GA---Mr. Charles H. “Buddy“ Rowland, Jr., 94, entered into rest on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Augusta University Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in the Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Reverend John B. Creech and Reverend Harold Harper officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with military honors by the U. S. Navy.

Mr. Rowland was a native of Keysville, Burke County, Georgia, but had been a resident of Augusta for most of his adult life. He was retired from the City of Augusta Water Department. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy. He was a member of Curtis Baptist Church and a former member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church and was the former Interim Minister of Music for the Augusta Baptist Association. He was a member of the John S. Davidson Masonic Lodge #677 and was a former member of the Augusta Barber Shop Singing Group. Buddy played Professional Baseball. He was a former member of the Yankee’s Baseball Organization and played for several teams during his career, including the Augusta Tigers. Mr. Rowland started the first Church Softball League, in Augusta and the first Augusta Little League Baseball Team.

Buddy was preceded in death by his daughter, Peggy Rowland Rolison, his parents, Charles H. Rowland, Sr. and Emma Reese Rowland, two sisters, Voncile Tudor and Bessie Neal and a brother, Harry Rowland. Mr. Rowland’s last surviving sibling, Wilton Rowland passed away on Saturday, five hours after his death.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Daisy C. Rowland of Augusta, his son, Charles H. “Buddy” Rowland III and wife, Bonnie of Evans, GA, four grandchildren, Scott Rolison and wife, Nikki, Kristi Anthony and husband, Mark, Alison Prosnak and husband, Mike and Jamie Matherly and husband, Jason and six great grandchildren, Blake and Brooke Rolison, Kamryn and Kolby Anthony and Blake and Tyler Prosnak.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Choplin Sunday School Class at Curtis Baptist Church
.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue, from 1:00 pm until the time of services.
