Obituary

Margaret A. (Neville) Collard, 94, of New Bedford died Saturday September 10, 2016 at Alden Court Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Henry R. Collard.

Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late George S. and Sarah (Ford) Neville, she lived in New Bedford since 1959.

She was an active communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Women's Guild and the Couples Club. She was awarded the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River for her dedicated service to her parish.

Mrs. Collard and her husband formerly owned and operated Polly's Variety & Luncheonette on Summer Street. She later was employed as a bookkeeper for the New Bedford School Department for 20 years. In her retirement, she was a volunteer office worker for Holy Name Parish.

Survivors include a son, Henry Collard, Jr. and his partner Candace of California; three daughters, Mary Bento and her husband Russ of Fairhaven, and Ann Sullivan and her husband Danny, and Carol Rossi and her husband Randy, all of New Bedford; a brother, George Neville of Glen, NH; a sister, Eleanor Snell of Orange City, FL; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Paul Neville, Lawrence Neville, and Claire Harrington.

Her Funeral will be held on Saturday September 17, 2016 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM.
