Mary-Rose (Harvey) Garfagna of North Easton, died on September 10, 2016 at home surrounded by her loved ones. She was the loving wife of the late Americo H. Garfagna.
Mary-Rose was born in Brockton to her loving parents Cornelius J. Harvey, Jr. and Margaret (Murphy) Harvey. She was a 1953 graduate of the Oliver Ames High School, a member of the National Honor Society and Cheerleader Captain.
She loved music and was a past member of the Immaculate Conception Church Choir, past member of the Sweet Adeline’s and past member of the Norton Little Theatre. Her love of music brought her to a variety of shows. She was a past member of the ICC Guild and present member of The Daughters of Isabella. She relocated from Easton to Brockton during her marriage years and subsequently returned to North Easton following her retirement and the death of her dear husband.
Mary-Rose was employed by the Federal Government and retired after 40 years of Service with the Veterans Administration, last serving as the Assistant Chief of the Medical Administration Service in the Brockton / West Roxbury VA Medical Center. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). She had been the recipient of the “Outstanding Woman of the Year” Award, receiving special recognition for her efforts.
She loved her years of employment with the Veterans Administration, serving our worthy veterans whom she always mentioned as being very special and deserving of the best, as they had served and continued to serve our country for our freedom!
Mary-Rose is survived by her sister Anne T. Chojnacki and her husband Walter of North Easton and her dear sister-in-law Patricia (Mrs. James F. Harvey of West Yarmouth). She was recently pre-deceased by her dear sister-in-law Phyllis (Mrs. Lester Brackley) of Hingham. She leaves several nieces and nephews and 4 step-children, Paul and Philip Garfagna, Diane Passo and Nancy Byron. Mary-Rose was the sister of the late, loving Catherine J. (Cathie) Harvey, James F. Harvey and Cornelius J. Harvey.
Her family welcomes loved ones and friends to the visiting hours on Tuesday from 3 to 7pm at the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8 am for a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Brockton at 9 am. Burial will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in North Easton.
