Taaffe, Sister Maureen SCN,
Formerly Sister Mary Karen Taaffe, 81, a native of Hyde Park, Massachusetts, died at Nazareth Home, Louisville, on Monday, August 22, 2016. Sister had been a professed SCN for sixty years.
Sister Maureen served in elementary education as both teacher and principal in Kentucky, Ohio and Massachusetts for thirty years. Sister served as principal in South Boston at St. Bridget’s School and at Our Lady of Nazareth Academy in Wakefield, MA from 1983-1989. She was the Pastoral Associate of St. John Chrysostom Parish in West Roxbury, MA from 1989-2015. Sister was also Associate SCN Regional in the Northern Region from 1996-2002. She retired to Nazareth Home in June 2016.
Sister is survived by one brother, Kevin Taaffe of Ponte Vedra, Florida, two sisters, Karen Taaffe Robinson of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Joan Taaffe of Jacksonville, Florida, her religious community, and her faith community that she served in New England. Her last 27 years was of extraordinary service at Saint John Chrysostom Parish, West Roxbury, where she took on the roles of Pastoral Associate, Religious Education director, Educator in all the Parish Ministries, and Coordinator of all the Outreach programs that were part of the Parish. She reached out to the poor and the young, and embraced all those who needed a message of hope. Sister truly lived the Gospel.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Vincent Church, Nazareth, Kentucky, on August 26, 2016, followed by a burial in Nazareth Cemetery.
A Memorial Mass honoring her life and work of Sister Maureen will be offered in St. John Chrysostom Church, West Roxbury, MA at 10:00am on Saturday, September 17, 2016.
