Robert A. Fifield, 66

Robert A. Fifield, age 66, of Norton, formerly of Sharon and Foxborough passed away peacefully, surrounded by the embracing love of his family on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Kindred Hospital Northeast in Stoughton. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Gonsalves) Fifield, to whom he was wed on June 20, 1982.
Born in Weymouth, MA on September 12, 1949, he was a son of the late Linwood T. and Dorothy M. (MacGregor) Fifield.
Bob grew up in Sharon and was a 1969 graduate of Sharon High School. He was employed for thirty-nine years as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Sharon Department of Public Works and retired on August 14, 2015.
Bob had made his home in Norton since retiring and had previously lived in Sharon for most of his life.
Bob’s many affiliations included being a member of the First Congregational Church in Sharon, the Sons of the American Legion in Sharon for 36 years, the Mansfield Lodge of Elks, a 32nd degree member of the Cosmopolitan Masonic Lodge in Boston, and a 20 year member of the Blue Hill Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Canton.
Bob also volunteered his services at the Sharon VFW, at the VA Hospital in Brockton and as a former call firefighter for the Town of Sharon.
He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, cooking, attending fund raising events, and most of all spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sisters Evelyn M. Steele of Mansfield and Kathleen L. Timmons of Dedham. He is also survived by his adoring in-laws as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a celebration of Bob’s life on Saturday, October 1st at 11:00 A.M. at the Sharon American Legion, 752 South Main St., Sharon. Visitation and collation will continue till 5:00 P.M. at the American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Sons of the American Legion, C/O Paul Gonsalves, 7 Margaret Road, Foxborough, MA 02035.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
