Robert "Bob-Woodsie" Woods, a 35 year resident of Charlestown and former longtime resident of South Boston, entered into eternal life on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following an extended illness. He was 59 years old.
Bob was born in Boston on November 9, 1956, a son of the late John G.H. Woods and Ann L. (Lonergan) Woods. He grew in South Boston where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from South Boston High School in 1974 where he was a standout pitcher on the varsity baseball team. Bob worked in the Maintenance Division for the Boston Housing Authority and retired in January of 2016 following 37 years of dedicated service to the City of Boston. He enjoyed working with his hands and was always interested in taking things apart and putting them back together.
Bob is the husband of Marybeth (Powers) Woods of Charlestown. He is the devoted father of Monica L. Schiavoni and her husband Daniel of Billerica, Paul R. Woods and his companion Vanessa Bowen of Lynn and Ryan P. Woods and his wife Michelle of Farmington, New Hampshire. He is the loving Grandpa to Megan E. Schiavoni, Anthony G. Woods and Jay R. Woods. He is the dear friend of Winnie Boman of Charlestown. He is the beloved brother of William Woods of Somerville, Barbara Wilbur of South Boston, John Woods of Quincy and the late Mary Perreault. He is the son-in-law of Stephen Powers and Martha (Lyons) Powers of Dorchester. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bob's Funeral Service on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 10 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester. His visiting hours will be on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
