Rita Demers, age 90, passed peacefully on Aug 31, 2016 at Mt St Vincent Health Care in Holyoke. Rita was the daughter of the late Alfred and Leah (Benoit) LeClair and step daughter to Roseanna (Burke) LeClair from Nova Scotia. She was a longtime resident of West Springfield. Rita was predeceased by her husband Noel Demers who passed away in 2008. She was also predeceased by two sisters Doris Chagnon of Chicopee and Yvette Carnevale of CT. She leaves two daughters Joanne Demers and her husband Bob Provencal of Ludlow and Susan Major and her husband George of New Hampshire; one son David Demers and his wife Marie of West Springfield; two grandsons Michael Major of MD and Brian Demers and his wife Leigh of OK. She also leaves two great granddaughters Madelyn and Amelia Demers of OK and one great grandson Hunter Major of NY. Rita had been employed at the former Riverdale Gardens Nursing Home in West Springfield for 17 years. She retired in 1995 and then worked part time for the former Filenes Department Store in Holyoke. Over the years Rita and her husband enjoyed ballroom dancing and spent many weekends with friends dining and dancing the night away. But her favorite enjoyment was her family first. A Funeral Service will be held on Wed, Sept. 7, 2016 at 8:30 AM from the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee, MA with a funeral home prayer service to take place at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on Tues, Sept. 6, 2016 from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
