Mary Gay Flippo Whitley, 85, of Ty Ty passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2016, at Ty Ty First Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Owens officiating. Mrs. Whitley will be laid to rest at Ty Ty First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 8, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Whitley will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
The deacons of Ty Ty First Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
Born October 9, 1930 in Guin, Alabama, Mrs. Whitley was the daughter of the late Marvin Clark Flippo and Donnie Lillian Maddox Flippo. She was also preceded in death by her husband Clarence Whitley; a son, Gerald Whitley; three brothers, Verdis Flippo, J. D. Flippo and Julian Flippo; and a sister, Dorothy Kelley. She was a homemaker and member of Ty Ty First Baptist Church. She had lived most of her life in Ty Ty.
Mrs. Whitley is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Bo Edenfield of Tifton and Donna and Robert Robbins of Colleyville, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Wymon and Mildred Flippo of Tifton; a sister and brother-in-law, Opal and Bob Wood of Sylvester; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Joan and David Godwin, Jill and John Scott, Joy and George Meeks, Johnathan Whitley, Lisa Braski, Kim and Kevin Robinson, John and Whitney Edenfield, Jason and Leigh Jordan and Courtney and Byran Kelly; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, SW GA Regional Office, 225 East Second Street, Tifton, GA 31794.
