Obituary

Alfred L. “Al” Lavoie age 90 of Sandwich formerly of Brockton, died Saturday September 3, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family while under the care of hospice. He was the devoted husband of the late Joan (Higgins) Lavoie for 68 years. Al was born and raised in Brockton, a son of the late Einar and Louise (Mather) Christensen.
During WWII, Al left Brockton High School to enlist in the US Navy and served in the armed guard division in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres.
Al was a truck driver by trade and belonged to Teamsters Local 653 in Brockton and had served as secretary/treasurer of the Teamsters Retirees Club1983-2014. Al had worked for Quinn Freight for many years and retired in 1975. Al and Joan moved to Sandwich in 1992.
Al enjoyed watching baseball games whether the Red Sox or the Cape Cod League, dogs and listening to jazz. He will be remembered as a loving, caring and generous man to family and friends.

Al was the cherished father of Nancy Prendergast and her husband Frank and Steven Lavoie and his wife Susan all of Sandwich and the late Marcia Lavoie. He was the loving grandfather of Julie Dimakis of Springfield, NH and Stephanie Murray of Middleboro.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton on Friday 10am-12pm followed by a graveside service in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Donations in Al’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
