Obituary

Defined by grace and wit, Karen K. Dangel of Sudbury, age 76, died on August 31, 2016. She was a devoted mother and a genuinely compassionate person whose strength, warmth, and intellect inspired everyone who knew her. Karen was happiest in her garden or a new book, reveling equally among beautiful plants and engaging stories. Her ongoing passion for words rendered the Dangel dinner table a place of perpetual humor and affection. Karen led her life with great dignity, in spite of numerous physical challenges, and her concern for others earned her the love and respect of many.

Wife of the late Dr. James C. Dangel, Karen is survived by her three sons and daughter-in-laws: Evan and Susan Dangel of Dover, Chris Dangel and Carolyn Lyons of Milton, and Colin Dangel and Pamela Gordon of Harvard. She is also survived by her brother, Gerry Kline, and his wife, Peggy of Placerville, CA.  Additionally, she leaves seven loving grandchildren. Karen was born in Columbus Ohio in 1940 to the late Kenneth and Eloise Ross Kline. Karen attended Ohio State University and later Harvard University for graduate work in teaching.  Living in Sudbury for almost 40 years, Karen happily volunteered her time to schools, the Sudbury Garden Club, and the Goodnow Library.

At Karen’s request, a private memorial service will be held for family. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Karen’s name should be made to the Goodnow Library Foundation, 21 Concord Rd., Sudbury, MA  01776, or online https://goodnowlibrary.org/getinvolved/foundation/
