William F. Fleming, born in Boston, MA June 10, 1934. Son of William F. Fleming, Saco, Maine and Elizabeth Murdock Nichols, Halifax, MA, both deceased. Loving husband of Lolly Fleming and father of Kirsten Fleming Moffat, Kittery, Maine and Susan Fleming Foster, Manchester, New Hampshire. Bill also leaves his sons-in-law, Scott Moffat and Keith Foster and five grandchildren; Timothy, Lauren and Benjamin Moffat of Kittery, Maine; Keiley and Allyssa Foster of Manchester, New Hampshire.
Bill lived in Dorchester, MA, attended Boston schools, and entered the U S Air Force in March of 1953. He spent 3 years in Brennan, Germany and surrounding towns where the United States government had set up a land and tree recovery program for Germany after the war. He also raced sports cars while there and came home loving the people and had many happy memories to recall.
After the USAF Bill returned to Chas. T. Main Engineers in Boston and then went to work for H. P. Hood Milk in their engineering department designing farmsteads for their milking customers. H P Hood moved Bill and his family to Middlebury, VT and opened an engineering office there. Then as the industry changed face and small dairy farms went out of business Bill moved his family to Derry, NH in 1968 and opened his own business, Farm Construction Services, Inc. which he ran for 40 years. The company grew and added marina construction, equestrian services and a catalogue division. Many of his buildings still dot the New England landscape today.
Bill believed in giving back and volunteered for many years at Community Caregivers of Derry. He was on the Board of Community Development Services in Portsmouth, NH where he ran the “Challenger Cup” boat race for people with disabilities and also served as Commodore and Secretary of the Portsmouth Yacht Club making life-long friendships. Bill was a certified mediator for automobile manufacturers, insurance companies and the courts, solving disputes. He was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s Masonic Lodge in Portsmouth, NH and also served on the Consumer Hotline at the Attorney General’s office in Concord, NH. For thirty years he was a fixture on the New England coast sailing his Pearson 30 sailboat “Viewpoint” until health issues made that impossible. He loved the fact that the boat now sails on Lake Winnipesaukee with new loving owners.
Burial will be in NH Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH at a later date and funeral services will be private at his request. The family thanks the Visiting Nurses Association of Rockingham County and Londonderry Family Practice for their support and kindness over the years. Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Portsmouth Yacht Club Building Fund, P O Box 189, New Castle, NH 03854, or Community Caregivers, 1B Commons Drive, Unit 10, Londonderry, NH 03053.
