NATICK: Peter J. Bulkeley, age 68, retired general foreman of the Wayland Highway Department, died peacefully surrounded by family at his Natick home on Tuesday afternoon, August 30, 2016. He and his wife, Nancy L. (Dow) Bulkeley, would have celebrated 46 years of marriage in October.
Born in Natick and raised in Cochituate, he was a son of the late Roger and Ruth (L’Heureux) Bulkeley. Educated in the Wayland Public Schools, Peter entered the United States Marine Corps in 1966. A Sergeant, he served as a field medic oversees and in medical services stateside until 1970.
Peter and Nancy were married and settled in Natick, and Peter became employed with the Wayland Highway Department as a laborer. After several years he worked his way up to Highway Department General Foreman, the position he held until his 2003 retirement. Never one to be idle, he returned to Wayland in a part time capacity in 2011, working two days a week at the transfer station until his recent illness.
Peter enjoyed coaching Natick Little League when his sons were active. Somewhat of a jack-of-all-trades, he could repair just about anything and generously lent his talents to neighbors and friends. For several years after retiring, he would frequently check in at the Wayland DPW, visiting old friends and sharing his experience.
He is survived by Nancy; their two sons, Scott A. Bulkeley and Jeffrey D. Bulkeley, both of Wayland; and a sister, Donna Ross and her husband Alan of NC. He was also the brother of the late Edward, Roger, and Bobbie Bulkeley.
Relatives and friends may visit the Bulkeley Family at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Friday, September 9th from 4 – 7P.M.
