Jewel Schmitz Edwards, age 93, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at her home in Water Valley, MS. She was born January 28, 1923 in Taylor, MS to the late Jesse and Josephine “Josie” Tindall Schmitz. Jewel worked for a while as a secretary at a trucking company. In 1948 she and her husband, Braymon moved to Memphis and started a family. She was of Baptist faith, taught Sunday school, and served as a cub scout leader. Jewel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed taking care of her family. She enjoyed the outdoors, working in her yard and growing flowers and vegetables. When Braymon retired, they moved back to Water Valley and built a home on the land where Jewel was raised as a small child.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 4, 2016 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm following the visitation in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Bennie Turnage officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Crest Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Yalobusha County with Jeremy Flippin, Joseph Flippin, Harley Camp, Michael Creekmore, Danny Childress, and Calvin Schmitz serving as pallbearers.
Jewel is survived by her daughters, Sheila (Billy) Flippin of Water Valley and Patsy (Danny) Childress of Coldwater, MS; her sons, Mike Edwards of Collierville, TN and Ricky (Marina) Edwards of Denver, CO; her sisters, Ruby Niblett of Jackson, MS and Ruth Ladd of Memphis, TN; nine grandchildren, Joseph Flippin, Jeremy Flippin, Natalie Flippin Camp, Jonas Edwards, Rachael Creekmore, Cari Edwards, Steven Edwards, Jenny Edwards, and Chris Fielder; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Braymon Edwards; her sisters, Margie Perkins and Josie Lura Schmitz; her brothers, Milton Schmitz and Ralph Schmitz; and her grandson, Josh Fielder.
