Obituary


William B. Cox, III 73, a longtime resident of Abington, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 30. He was the beloved husband of forty-nine years to Janice E. (Sherlock) Cox.

Born in Boston and raised in Abington, he was the son of Helen (Supitkowsky) (Cox) Plyler of Abington and the late William B. Cox, Jr. and was a graduate of Abington High School, Class of 1961.

After graduation from High School, William joined the US Marines and had served proudly for over ten years, including two active tours of duty in Vietnam and earning a Vietnamese Service Medal w/ 2 stars and a Navy Commendation Metal w/ combat ā€œVā€ among others.

He had been a resident of Abington for over thirty-five years, where he and his wife Janice raised their two children and was a longtime communicant of St. Bridget Church.

Prior to his retirement, William had worked for over forty years as a regional sales manager for the recycling industry.

He had been an active man, for twenty years he had enjoyed skiing at King Pine in NH, and for forty years had been an avid boater and member of the Town River Yacht Club where he had served as Commodore.

In addition to his wife Janice and his mother Helen and her husband Curtis, he is survived by his loving children Bryan Cox and his wife Stacy of Whitman and Tracy Tanana and her husband Gregory of Abington, his brothers Bernard Hall and his wife Debbie of West Bridgewater, Bob Hall and his wife Kim and Tommy Hall and his wife Cindy all of Abington and the late Joseph Hall. He is also survived by his grandchildren Shane, Taylor, Thomas, Zoe and Eve as well as many nieces and nephews.

His visiting hours will be held Friday September 2 from 4:00-8:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. His funeral service will be held Saturday September 3 at 10:15 AM from the Chapel, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00AM in St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland.
