WAYLAND: Helen Brown Kentley, 95, died peacefully and comfortably on Monday, August 29, 2016 following a brief illness.
She was born in West Roxbury on September 5, 1920 the daughter of the late James Brown and Jean (Ramsay) Brown.
Helen was the beloved wife for 42 years of the late James Kentley who died on February 22, 1994.
She is survived by her loving and devoted children; Hugh J. Kentley and his wife Deirdre of Medway and Pamela H. Kentley of Salem. Cherished sister of Mary McCabe of Natick and also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jeannie Gaudet, Esther Weiher, Anna Brown, James Brown and Sylvia Cotton.
Helen spent her formative years in West Roxbury and graduated from West Roxbury High School. She resided in Wayland for over 45 years before moving to the Willows in Westborough where she has resided for the last 18 years.
For over 17 years, she was the Claims Supervisor for the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company before retiring. Helen was also associated with the Natick Mills Fabric Store for 6 years and with Specialty Woolens of Natick for 3 years.
Helen was a longtime member of Fisk Memorial United Methodist Church in Natick where she was active in the Women’s Society. While a resident of the Willows, she was an active participant of the community managing the annual yard sales and for many years participated in several of the musical pageants. She had a special talent for her fundraising abilities at the Willow’s and designed hand purses for the general store for purchase. She loved to cook, bake, sew and shared her gift for quilt making. Helen was devoted to her family and always enjoyed the time spent with them.
Her family will receive friends and family on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 9:30 an until 10:45 am prior to her funeral service at 10:00 am at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte. 30), Wayland,
Interment will follow in the Kentley family lot in North Cemetery in Wayland.
