Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Jean I. (Trainor) Lenilko, 82, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, August 28, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on October 14, 1933, a beloved daughter of the late James W. Trainor and Lottie M. (Jackman) Trainor. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from the High School of Commerce and was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She was employed for over 25 years and retired as an Advertising Manager at the former Wall Street Journal in Chicopee. During her leisure time, Jean enjoyed cooking and was a wonderful seamstress who made clothing for her children during their younger years. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was a longtime communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield where she was a member of the Our Lady of Hope Women’s Guild. Upon the closing of the parish, she became a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. She also was a member of the John Boyle O’Reilly Club in Springfield. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, John “Manky” Lenilko who was Called Home on April 24, 2004. They were married on June 7, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 51 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Thomas Trainor and his wife, Virginia; and her dear sister, Pauline Woodford. She leaves her three loving children, Kathleen J. Goltz and her husband, Gary, of Medfield, MA, John M. Lenilko and his wife, Noreen, of Sunderland, VT and Mary Ellen Goodwin of East Longmeadow; her longtime dear friend, John “Yaco” Dowd of Springfield; her eight cherished grandchildren, Brian Goltz and his wife, Beth, Daniel Goltz, Kate Goltz and her fiancé, Kevin Moulton, Ian Lenilko, Emily Lenilko and her fiancé, Eric Wall, Abigail Lenilko, Luke Goodwin and Jon Goodwin; her cherished great-grandson, Owen Goltz; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Lenilko and Trainor families. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, September 2, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 11 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Committal Service will follow the Mass at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the John Boyle O’Reilly Club Scholarship Fund, 33 Progress Avenue, Springfield, MA 01104.
