Bruce R. Smathers age 65 of Canton passed away unexpectedly at home August 28th. Born in Boston, he was raised in Canton and graduated from Canton High School Class of 1968 and also graduated from Blue Hills Technical School. Bruce went on to take graduate courses at Wentworth Institute and Clemson University. He was a Senior Designer Draftsman for Stone & Webster Engineering and General Dynamics (Nuclear Submarines) of Groton, CT. Beloved son of Edith L. Smathers (Scruton) and the late Russell D. Smathers. Brother of Duane Smathers of Canton. Also survived by several cousins. Relatives and friends invited to attend a funeral service at the Congregational Church of Canton 1541 Washington St. Canton Friday morning at 11. Visiting hours omitted, burial private. He will be sadly missed by his mom and on the golf course.
