Obituary

Mary L. Grant passed away after her courageous struggle with ALS on Friday, August 26, 2016. Born in Boston, she was raised in Dorchester and Milton and had resided in Milton for the past 30 years. She was a graduate of St. Gregory High School, received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Boston State College and her Master’s Degree from Emmanuel Collegs. Mary retired from her position as Special Education Coordinator for the William Barton Rogers School in Hyde Park. She was the Track Director for the City of Boston at the Reggie Lewis Center where she was instrumental in keeping thousands of kids off the streets of the city. There is a race named in her memory to honor her for her dedication to the children of the City of Boston. Mary also served as a State Track Meet Official, one of the first three female Track Officials in the State. The beloved 37 year partner of Peter D. Clune of Milton, she was the devoted daughter the late Edward J. and Dorothea E. (Wallace) Grant and dear sister of Patrick J. Grant & his wife Ellen of Walpole and Stephen X. Grant and his wife Linda of Mashpee. She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews and many dear friends. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory Church, 2223 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester on Thursday morning at 10:30. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Wednesday, 4 to 8 PM. Burial in Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center, 1200 Centre St., Roslindale, MA 02131.
