Mary T. "Mae" (Sullivan) Doherty, a lifelong resident of Charlestown and Osterville, entered into eternal life on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Leonard Florence Center For Living in Chelsea following an extended illness. She was 86 years old.
Mary was born in Boston on April 12, 1930, a daughter of the late Patrick Sullivan and Mary (Murphy) Sullivan. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston in 1947. Mary worked as a Secretary for New England Telephone and Telegraph Company and retired following 40 years of dedicated service. Mary enjoyed reading and listening to Irish music and took great pleasure traveling to her home in Osterville on Cape Cod and dancing at the Irish village.
Mary is the beloved wife of the late retired Boston Firefighter Edmund F. Doherty. She is the devoted mother of Karen and Joe DeRosa. She is the loving Nana to Patrick and Ryan DeRosa. She is the beloved sister of the late Quinlan and Louise Sullivan. She is the loving aunt to Patrick and Janet Sullivan, Quinlan Sullivan and Peggy O'Donnell, Sean Sullivan and Carolann Owens and the late Kathleen Sullivan. She is the great-aunt to Harry and Lauren, Patrick, Rose, Connor, Quinlan, Sean and Seamus Sullivan. She is also the great-great-aunt to Benjamin Sullivan. She is the best friend of John and Mary Grady of Osterville.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mary's Funeral on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Her visiting hours will be on Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 4 to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
