John F. Kearney of Hanson passed away on August 26th, three days after his 70th birthday, after a period of failing health, surrounded by his family and memories of a wonderful life.
He was the beloved son of the late Jack and Mary Ruth Kearney of Winthrop and stepson to the late Alice Farquhar Kearney of Winthrop. Devoted husband of Linda Garaffo Kearney of Hanson, formally of Weymouth. Loving father to Shannon Kearney MacCormack and her husband Craig of North Attleboro and an indulgent grandfather to Alyssa MacCormack. Brother of Ellen Kearney of Southhaven Mississippi and Hope Kearney Garvey and her family also of Southhaven Mississippi. His loving sister-in-law Gwen Rimovitz and her husband William of Brockton, his best friends and traveling partners and their families. Stepbrother of William and Joan Farquhar of Connecticut, Peter and Andrea Farquhar of California and Paul Farquhar of Quincy and their families.
John will be remembered for his strong work ethic, working for Sprinkler Fitters Local 550 for almost 45 years, before retiring in 2012.
He loved to travel, especially to Disney World with his granddaughter, gamble, and cook, perfecting his mac and cheese and many soup recipes after his retirement.
