Henry J. Tache, 96, of Salem, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Hawthorne Hill in Danvers, with the love and support of his family. He was the devoted husband of the late Margaret M. (Kneeland) Tache.
Born and raised in Salem he was the son of the late Albert and Corrine (Michaud) Tache. A proud veteran of World War II, Henry served with the Army, Company M, 422d Infantry Regiment. He participated in the D-Day+2 invasion of Normandy and fought in the Battle of the Bulge for which he received the Combat Infantryman Badge, WW II Victory Medal, the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater Campaign Medal and the Bronze Star. Following his tour of duty Henry worked for the A & P food chain until his retirement.
Henry was a kind, loving and compassionate gentleman who took enormous pride in his family. He was a true people person, who loved socializing with his family, and his special friend Vangie of 38 years. Always dapper, he and Vangie would travel around the country and spend most days together making great memories. Henry also loved living in Salem, walking around town, visiting Salem Willows and making new friends. He had an amazing personality, loved to sing and dance and people always enjoyed his company. Henry was a long time member of the VFW, Witch City Post 1524 and the Knights of Columbus Council 76.
He is survived by his son, Kenneth G. Tache of Salem, his daughter Jeannine Tache Ofilos and her husband Harry of Salem, his brother Norman Tache and his wife Annette of Salem, his grandchildren Jonathan Ofilos and his wife Michelle, Matthew Ofilos, Alyssa Ofilos Sweeney and her husband Kevin, Danielle Tache Oliva and her husband Nick, Michael Tache and his wife Gisselle, his great-grandchildren, Avery & Nathan Oliva and Julia & Ryan Ofilos as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, Lucien, Stanley, Paul & George Tache and sisters, Henrietta Lojko, Cecile St. Gelais, Emma Tache, Theresa Pelletier, Marie Antoinette Pesce.
We would like to thank the staff at Hawthorne Hill for their care and support of Henry. The staff went out of their way to make him feel at home and he considered everyone there “his other family”.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visiting hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [ Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Sunday, August 28, 2016, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. His funeral mass will be on Monday, the 29th at 10:00 AM in the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne, Blvd., Salem to which all are invited. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Adult Brain Tumor Research Fund, C/o Dr. Patrick Wen, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave. Boston, MA 02215.
