Obituary

CHICOPEE - Rachel M. (Jette) Kerley, 84, of the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Chicopee on November 1, 1931, a beloved daughter of the late Lionel D. and Juliette (Charpentier) Jette. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from the former St. Jerome High School in Holyoke and lived in Chicopee for most of her life. She was last employed as a secretary and bookkeeper at St. Joan of Arc Elementary School and was previously a kindergarten teacher at St. Stanislaus School, both in Chicopee. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a faithful communicant of St. Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where she was an active volunteer. She was a member of the Chicopee Falls Women's Club. Most of all, she was a loving woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her cherished grandson, Michael J. Pietroniro and her two loving brothers, Reverend Donald J. Jette, S.S.S. of the Blessed Sacrament Fathers and Raymond G. Jette and his wife, Evelyn. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Everett L. Kerley. They were married on January 3, 1953 at Ste. Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 63 years of happiness together. She leaves her five loving children: Michael L. Kerley and his wife Elaine, of Williamsburg, VA, Donna M. Kerley of Chicopee, Carol A. Pietroniro and her husband Vincent, of Feeding Hills, John E. Kerley and his wife Gina, of Kingston, MA and Steven J. Kerley and his wife Brenda of Harleysville, PA. She also leaves eight cherished grandchildren: Beth, Kimberly, Jennifer and her husband, Nick, James and his wife, Ashlee, Samantha, Jack, David and his wife, Samantha and Justin and his wife, Taraneh. In addition, she leaves seven cherished great-grandchildren: Dakota, Cameron, Jack, Ryan, Rachel, Kyle and Beren. She also leaves her loving sister: Estelle Landry and her husband, Gerald, of Belchertown. Her funeral will be held on Monday morning, August 29, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 7:45 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Ste. Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Committal Service will follow Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 28, 2016 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee MA 01020.
