Duane M. Knapp, 69

Dateline: Norton, MA

Duane M. Knapp, age 69, of Norton, formerly of Bennington, VT passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, August 24, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Linda M. James, to whom he was wed for the past 17 years.
Born in Bennington, VT on June 22, 1947, he was a loving son of the late Arnold L. and Viola M. (Worden) Knapp.
Duane grew up in Bennington and was a 1966 graduate of Bennington High School. Following graduation, he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He served for a short period in the United States Marines and later transferred in the United States Army prior to being honorably discharged.
A resident of Norton for the past 17 years, Mr. Knapp was the retired Superintendent of the Norton Water Dept., a position he held for 15 years. Following retirement he worked as a groundskeeper at Blue Hills Country Club.
While living in Bennington he was a well known person, servicing as the former Bennington Water Superintendent, as a Deputy Sheriff for the Bennington Sheriffs Dept., as a 20 year volunteer for the Bennington Fire Dept. and a former Circuit Rider for the National Rural Water Association.
He was also a former member of the Bennington Lodge of Elks, the Bennington Lodge of Moose and the Bennington VFW.
Duane especially enjoyed boating, fishing, golf, gardening. building and flying radio controlled airplanes, projects around the house, and always being there to lend others a helping hand.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted daughter Jennifer A. Polumbo of Milford, MA. He was the dear brother of Carolyn Cone and her husband Kenneth of Bennington, VT, Robert Knapp and his wife April of Pownal, VT, and Richard Knapp and his wife Linda of Bennington, VT. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a celebration of Duaneā€™s life at the Chateau Restaurant, 48 Bay Road, in Norton on Saturday. November 12th from 12:00-3:00 P.M.
Visiting hours have been omitted and those wishing may remember Duane with a donation in his memory made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215.
