Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Nora T. Dahdah Blaisdell, 96, of the Indian Orchard section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life after two months of declining health at Wingate at East Longmeadow, surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born at home on Webster Avenue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 25, 1920, a beloved daughter of the late Michael and Catherine (Sahadie) Dahdah. She was raised in Pittsburgh and later lived on Ferry and Cass Streets in Springfield before moving to Indian Orchard around 1957. She was employed for several years and worked at the former Westinghouse Corporation in East Springfield and the former Buxton Company in Agawam. She was also a caterer who specialized in Lebanese Cuisine. Most of all, she was a longtime faithful communicant of Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield. She was the “official historian and photographer” for every church function and was always ready to capture memories with her trusty disposable Kodak camera. Nora was the “number one” ticket seller for any fundraiser or bazaar at her parish where she knew every Lebanese family by name. She had her own special pew in church and her own table in the Cedars Hall which was available for her friends or by “invitation only”. She was an active member of the Saint Anthony Women’s Guild and a member of the former Mount Lebanon Girls Club. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Stanley M. Blaisdell who was Called Home on September 21, 2007. They were married on October 13, 1945 in the old Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 61 years of happiness together. She was also predeceased by her loving son, Michael J. Blaisdell who was Called Home on June 2, 2015; and her loving brothers and sisters, Ralph Dahdah, John Dahdah, Genevieve Demers, Victoria Mowad, Mary Hassin and Josephine Joulwan. She leaves her loving daughter, Cathy Blaisdell Rogers of Fayetteville, NC; her loving brother, Joseph P. Dahdah of Wilbraham; and her many loving friends and parishioners at Saint Anthony’s Church. In addition, she leaves grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Blaisdell and Dahdah families. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, August 27, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118.
