Obituary

James P. Andersen, Sr. age 92 of Canton passed away August 22nd at the Tippett House in Needham. Born and raised in Engelwood, Colorado, he graduated from Littleton High School in Colorado and the University of Colorado in Boulder Class of 1949. He went on to serve as a Pilot in the Navy during WW II and was the 24th Pilot to land on Midway. While working at MIT, he founded Dynamics Research Corporation in Andover, and later worked as a Mechanical Engineer for NASA and the Department of Transportation at Volpe National Transportation Center before retiring. After retirement he taught Computers at the Canton Senior Center, drove for FISH in Canton. Jim was a founding member of the Ponkapoag Civic in Canton and enjoyed Photography, sailing, hiking, biking and canoeing. Beloved husband of the late Bernice A. (Ballem). Father of Janet Trocchio and her husband Paul of Mansfield, James P. Andersen, Jr. and his wife Donna of Canton, Joanne Hartford and her husband Chip of W. Yarmouth, Jill Moran and her husband Don of Whitman and the late Jackie Andersen. Brother of Elaine Breen, Virginia Monserud, Norbert Andersen, and the late Honora, Walter, and Lawrence Andersen. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Thursday (4-8 pm). Funeral mass at St. Gerard Majella Church Canton Friday morning at 10. Burial St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton.
