Obituary

Assunta (Lupi) Caranfa, 103, of Somerville died on Sunday, August 21, at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home. Born and raised in Villalago, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Anna (Iafolla) Lupi. Assunta came to the U.S. in 1948, settling first in Boston's North End before moving to Somerville in 1956.

Assunta was the beloved wife of the late Ginevro Caranfa, and the devoted mother of Domenico Caranfa and his late wife Lina, Clara Jansen and her late husband Joseph, all of Somerville. She was the loving grandmother of Anthony Caranfa and his wife Rose of Medford, Paul Caranfa and his wife Andrea of Reading, Steven Caranfa and his wife Kim, Joseph Jansen and his wife Traci, all of Somerville, Jeffrey Jansen and his wife Cathrine of Medford, the late Susan Caranfa, and the loving great grandmother of Jennifer, Anthony and his wife Christy, Emily, Layla and Sabrina Caranfa, and Ava Jolie Jansen. Assunta was the sister of the late Modesto, Isidoro, Sedina, and Maria (Mametta), and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews here and in Italy. Her family offers a special thanks to the care-givers at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Monday, August 29 at 9AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Mary Church, 55 Warren St., Charlestown, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4 - 8PM. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
