Billy Rowe Wood, 78, of Tifton passed away Sunday, August 21, 2016, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Joseph L. Crumley officiating. Mr. Wood will be laid to rest at Lawrence Cemetery in Tifton. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 23, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Joseph McKenzie, Cody Edwards, James Kilpatrick, Juan Villarreal and Frank Krause will serve as pallbearers.
Born February 26, 1938 in Sparks, Mr. Wood was the son of the late Carson Rowe “Shuddy” Wood and Christine Rose Donaldson Wood. He was also preceded in death by James E. Terry. He was a retired school teacher with the Tift County Board of Education and of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He loved his fur “babies”, Casey Rose, Chase Apollo, Sally Mae, Kelly Kaye, Spud Muffin and Ches Domino.
Mr. Wood is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and McKinley “Mac” Whitehead of Lenox; his nieces, Christi Maton of Hickory, North Carolina, Misti Whitehead of Adel and Mandi McKenzie of New Port Ritchie, Florida; and his best friends, Lonnie and Barbara Tyler of Tifton.
