Obituary

Our Dad and Superhero, Steve Cyr, bravely lost his short battle with lung cancer on August 18, 2016, on the day that he moved into the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH.
Our Dad was a blessing to anybody that was lucky enough to cross paths with him in life. A hard working man who had a difficult time telling his children no, Dad (along with our Mom) made sure that our lives were full of love, laughter, travel and fun memories.
His beautiful eyes and charismatic personality made him an easy person to love. He had an incredible love and passion for music, one that he passed down to his children. Growing up, our home was filled daily with the sounds of Dad’s acoustic guitar. Many mornings, we woke up to the sound of “Dust in the Wind” coming from Dad’s guitar, filling the house. His sharing that song with us was a real gift from Dad, as it been on repeat in our hearts and minds, filling us with sweet memories of the simpler times.
Aside from music, Dad was a fan of fishing, US & World history, gardening, shopping for antiques and interesting finds at flea markets and garage sales, comedy, and the New England Patriots. His greatest joy was found in spending time with his five adoring kids, (whom he still called his babies up until his last breath), and his five grandchildren, whose faces light up at the mention of their Papa’s name.
Born in Hartford, Ct on March 24, 1957, Dad was the son of Lazaar and Nicole. Raising his family in Methuen, MA, he was most recently a resident of Windham, NH.
Dad left high school prior to graduation in order to join the United States Army. He proudly served his country from 1976 to 1982, finishing his enlistment as Staff Sergeant. After leaving the Army and starting a family, Dad started his own flooring business, SMC Floor Covering, which he successfully owned and operated for 25 years. In the last years of his life, Dad worked for the people that he considered his second family at Lachance Associates.
Dad leaves behind five heartbroken children, David Cyr of Haverhill, Mandy and her husband Jeremy Chaput of Methuen, Melissa and her husband Angel Montalvo of Haverhill, Alicia and her husband Brian Cripps of Derry, and Steven and his wife Nina Cyr of Salem, NH; five grandchildren, Athena, Landon, Jacob, Gavin and Sophia; former wife of 30 years, Veronica Cyr; companion Kristina LaRoche, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and close friends. Dad was predeceased by his father Lazaar (Joseph) Cyr, mother Freida (Nicole) Lind, brother Joseph Cyr, and sister Dorothea (Dorie) Gildersleeve.
Our family would like to extend sincere thanks for all the support and love we have received since Dad’s diagnosis in May.
Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 25 at 11 am. St Lucy's Parish at 254 Merrimack St, Methuen, MA 01844. The Kenneth H.
