Elsie Cecilia (Cain) Cassese, age 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 18, 2016. Elsie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Lawrence W. Cassese and her daughter Cynthia Zammitt. She also leaves two children, Lawrence Cassese, Jr. and Jeri Johnson, and a grandson Tim Cassese. A lifelong Weymouth resident, Elsie grew up in Weymouth Landing, graduated from Weymouth High School and moved to East Weymouth when she married. Elsie's first job was as a switchboard operator for the telephone company and later in life worked at Long's Jewelers selling jewelry and giftware – she loved working and enjoyed both of these jobs tremendously. Elsie was very involved with the Whitman's Pond Association and, as the wife of a long time Rotarian, was proud to be an honorary member of the Weymouth Rotary Club.
With boundless energy, Elsie enjoyed all aspects of life: traveling, gardening, solving cryptoquotes, weekends in Orleans (Cape Cod) and, most of all, her family. Elsie will be missed by many.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Elsie on Tuesday, August 23 from 4-8 PM at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth and the funeral service which will be held at the Holy Nativity Church, 8 Nevin Rd. S. Weymouth on Wednesday, August 24 at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Elsie's memory to the Weymouth Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 52, South Weymouth, MA 02190.
