Ret. Sergeant Major James R. Lucier, 80, of Medway passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 in the Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the loving husband of the late Ursula H. (Meier) Lucier who died in 2004.
Born on July 21, 1936 in Schenectady, NY he was the son of the late Alfred A. and Bernice (Kennedy) Lucier. James grew up in Schenectady and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. He later went on to obtain an associates degree from Columbia College in Chicago.
Mr. Lucier was a resident of Bellingham prior to moving to Medway where he had lived for the past 37 years.
A decorated Army Veteran with 25 years of service; Mr. Lucier was a recruiter and retired with the rank of Sergeant Major. He had service in both the Korean War and served overseas in the Vietnam War. He was awarded two Bronze Stars, an Army Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal. After his military career he worked for the CETA Training Program where he helped find work for the unemployed and also for Raytheon in Marlboro, MA where he worked on military radar installations.
In his spare time, James was an avid golfer and was a member of the New England Country Club in Bellingham. He was a life-long fan of the Red Sox and Patriots and enjoyed skiing, bike riding, jogging and loved to read.
He is survived by his two daughters, Christine Jorgensen and her husband Carsten of Medway and Kathleen Bangma and her husband Randall J. of Uxbridge. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Lauren and Kristen Bangma and Emily, James and Ryan Jorgensen. He is also survived by his siblings, Jacqueline Bruce of Schenectady, NY and Dr. Alfred Lucier of Rosemont, PA and his sister-in-law Francis Lucier of Lexington, KY. He was the father of the late Janeen A. Leone.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass on Monday, August 22 at 10:00AM at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St., Medway. Interment with full military honors will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4:00 – 6:00PM in the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St., Medway.
