Sherry Baxley

Savannah, GA – After a long and difficult battle with cancer, Sheryl Hall Baxley, “Sherry”, 61, of Augusta, Georgia went to be with her Lord on August 17, 2016. She died at her daughter’s home in Savannah surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Aiken, South Carolina on August 10, 1955 to Patricia Hall (“Pat”) and the late James Marcus Hall, III (“Jim”). Sherry was a graduate of Butler High School and attended Georgia Southern University. She lived in the Augusta area her entire life.

Sherry loved her family so much, especially her grandchildren. She also had a great love for animals. Prior to keeping her grandchildren, she worked in the medical billing industry. She was a Girl Scout leader. She loved spending time with her family, her pets and scrapbooking.

Sherry is survived by her husband of 24 years, Gene Baxley, of Augusta; her two children: Dr. Brandy Gheesling Bacon (Brian) of Savannah and James Ralph Gheesling, III (Tiffany) of Stockbridge; three grandchildren: Anna Kate Prescott, Miller Bacon and James Gheesling IV; her mother: Patricia Hall, her stepmother: Julia Hall; a brother: the Honorable J. Randal Hall (Suzi); a stepsister: Loresa Norris (David); her nieces: Mary Catherine Murray (Jeff), Betsy Hall, McKinley Norris, Anna Claire Norris; her aunts: Ann Wilson (Jerry), Loretta Carr, Jean Smith (Paul); and uncle: Loran Ross (Vicki). She is preceded in death by her father; James Marcus Hall, III; her niece: Anna Eloise Hall; her maternal grandparents: Jack G. & Lelia Hinson Ross of Elgin, SC; and her paternal grandparents: JM Hall, Jr & Thelma Price Hall of Wadley, GA.

A celebration of life ceremony will be Monday, August 22, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be George Bacon, Jeff Murray, Jerry Wilson, Bryant Wilson, David Norris and the Honorable J. Randal Hall.

The family would like to thank Hospice Savannah and all of the wonderful doctors and nurses involved in her care.
