New Bedford – Luzia Resendes, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Care One, New Bedford. She was the loving wife of the late Manuel C. Resendes and the daughter of Palmira (Amaral) and Antonio Vieira Pereira.
Luzia was born in Faial da Terra, St. Michael, Acores and lived in this area since 1969. She worked at Calvin Clothing as a stitcher. Mrs. Resendes was active in the Church group, Irmandade do Rosario.
She is survived by 2 sons: Humberto M. Resendes and his wife Rosemary M. Resendes of S. Dartmouth and Antonio M. Resendes and his wife Lasalette B. Resendes of New Bedford; 3 grandchildren: Maryanne and Christopher Resendes and Rachel R. Medeiros; 6 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Luzia is predeceased by several siblings.
Her funeral will be Monday beginning in the funeral home at 7:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church in New Bedford at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours are Sunday from 5 to 7 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
