Doris "Dolly" (Hughes) Solari - Wife of the late Richard "Richie" Lane and the late John "Johnny" Solari. Entered into peaceful rest surrounded by her beloved family on August 11, 2016 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, N.H. The youngest child of the late William Whitfield and Willa "Doris" (Nickerson) Hughes, Dolly was born in Boston, MA on May 17, 1943 (also her older brother "Billys" tenth birthday). For every year thereafter, Billy would recount his hopes for two cap guns with holsters as a birthday present, but instead received a little sister. Dolly grew up in Dorchester, MA, and later lived in Marshfield, MA and Quincy, MA, but eventually settled in Derry N.H. It was there that she decided to fulfill a long time desire to finish her high school education. She pursued and proudly obtained her G.E.D. fifteen years ago. Dolly was extremely gifted in knitting, crocheting and sewing. A crowning testament to these skills was her daughter Kristin's spectacular wedding gown, which she lovingly made and hand beaded.
Dolly had a love for family and with good reason. She was one of six children: Elizabeth "Betty" (Hughes) Shionis, wife of the late George Shionis of Quincy, MA, the late William "Billy" Hughes, husband of the late Patricia "Pat" (Powers) Hughes of Goshen, NH, the late Barbara "Barbie" (Hughes) Connolly, wife of the late Glen Connolly of Bowie, MD, Carol (Hughes) Chinn, wife of John Chinn of Milton, MA, and George Hughes, husband of Phyllis (Morrill) Hughes of Plymouth, MA. Dolly was the mother of four children: Kevin Lane, husband of Katherine (Braley)Lane of Grantham, NH, Kristin "Krissy" (Lane) DeGroot, wife of Robert DeGroot of Auburn, NH, Susan (Solari) McKenzie, wife of Tim McKenzie of Manchester, NH and Jonathan Solari of Brookline, MA . She was also stepmother to six children of her late husband Richard "Richie" Lane: Richard Lane, husband of Jane of Norwood, MA,Walter Lane, husband of Cindi of Quincy, MA, Thomas Lane, husband of Pauline of Weymouth, MA, Stephen Lane husband of Maria of Rockland, MA, Pamela Lane of Valrico FL and Janet (Lane) Vye, wife of Charles Vye of Middleborough, MA. She was the grandmother of Tiffany DeGroot and Daniel DeGroot of Auburn, NH, and aunt to many loving nieces and nephews and their children. Dolly is also survived by two dear longtime friends: Katherine "Trinka" Lane of Quincy, MA and Mildred "Mimi" Robison of Weymouth, MA.
Dolly will be fondly remembered for her good humor and loving nature. Her final words to her children, "I love each of you, equally" will live in our hearts and carry us through our grief .
After cremation, a visitation will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH, with a service to follow at 4 pm.
