Obituary


Bridgewater—Frances E. Corthell, 98, of Bridgewater, formerly of Whitman, passed away on August 15 after a period of failing health. Born and raised in North Abington, she was the daughter of Antoni B. and Eva (Anevski) Pietrowski.

She was predeceased by Robert, her husband of 64 years and daughter Roseanne. She was the loving mother of Michael and his wife Mary; Colleen Mills and her husband John; Jane Kilfoyle; Robert and his wife MaryAnn; and Elizabeth Putnam and her husband Matt. In addition, she was the cherished Nana to her 10 grandchildren: Matt, Dan, Adam, Kaity, Shaun, Michael, Kaia, Eva, Ethan and Jason; and to her 4 great-grandchildren: Teagan, Gavin, Alexis and Max.

Throughout her life, Frances was an active volunteer in many community organizations in Whitman, including Women’s Sodality, PTA, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the CCD education program at Holy Ghost parish, where she was a communicant for many years. After raising her children, Frances worked as a home health aide for Catholic Charities until her retirement at the age of 86. She enjoyed sewing, operas, musicals, and travel, but most of all, she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s recitals, sports and school events. Family and friends will always remember her as the talented hostess of many parties and gatherings, especially on Christmas Eve.

Services will be held Friday, August 19 at 8:15 a.m. from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Route 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 a.m. in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday August 18 at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel from 4-8 p.m.
