Obituary

Murphy of Brockton formerly of Brighton, May 22, 2002, Michael D. Murphy, 47 years. Loving husband of Donna M. Shaw. Devoted father of Colin M. Murphy of Brockton.

A Celebration of Michaels’ life will be held in the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Saturday at 10 am. Visiting Hours Friday 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Michael’s memory may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Clinic, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.

Obituary Information

Mr. Murphy died Wednesday at the Caritas Good Samaritan MedicalCenter after a lengthy illness. Born in Lynn, son of the late James Murphy, Jr. and Janet (Weatherbee) Sims. He was raised and educated in Brockton, a graduate Of Brockton High School Class of 1972. He also attended U-Mass Amherst as an art history major. Until 1999 he was employed at the Holiday Inn in Brockton. Previously he was a psychiatric counselor at both Lemmuel Shattuck and St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boston. For several years he was involved with the Cult Awareness Network, which rescued and deprogrammed members of religious cult organizations. He had studied martial arts for many years. Mr. Murphy was a blues harmonica player and sat in with many area bands. He was a member of the Boston Blues Society. He was also an illustrator specializing in pen and ink art fantasy. He loved to read Beatles books and collect memorabilia. He also enjoyed reading JFK assassination books.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife Donna M. Shaw. A Son Colin M. Murphy, Two brothers Brian Murphy of Johnston City, IL. and Mark Brady of Pittsburgh, IL., three sisters Cathy Hendrickson of Marion, IL. Carol Ann Brady of St. Louis, MO and Suzanne Sims of Illinois. He was the step-son of Carrol R. Sims of Pittsburgh, IL. He also leaves many nieces and nephews
