Edgar J. LeBlanc, Jr., 83 of New Bedford died Monday August 8, 2016 peacefully at the Oaks Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Emelie L. (Grenon) LeBlanc.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Edgar J. LeBlanc and Sarah (Furtado) LeBlanc Holmstrom, he lived in New Bedford most of his life. He had also resided in Wareham for five years and in Florida for five years .
He was a communicant of St. John Neumann Church.
Mr. LeBlanc was formerly employed as a corrections officer at MCI - Bridgewater for many years. After his retirement, he worked as a school bus driver for Tremblay Bus Company.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy.
An active tennis player for 50 years, he was instrumental in the development of the Whaling City Tennis Association. He was an avid golfer for the last 25 years. He loved sports of all kinds. He especially loved spending time with his family and taking long rides to nowhere with the love of his life, Emelie.
Survivors include wife; three children, Gary LeBlanc and his wife Lucy, Paul LeBlanc and his wife Gale, and Michelle Ferreira and her husband Charles; two brothers, Donald LeBlanc and Gerald LeBlanc; five grandchildren, Audrey (Ferreira) Moschella, Erica (Ferreira) Chevalier, Gregory, Kyle, and Matthew LeBlanc; a step-granddaughter, Michelle Luzon; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Julianna Chevalier, and Vivian Moschella; three step-great-grandchildren, Caleb, Amari, and Alivia Luzon; his cherished niece, Pamela Mello and her husband David; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late George LeBlanc.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 AM at St. John Neumann Church, East Freetown. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Road, Route 6, Mattapoisett.
