Obituary

Leonard Spinney was born in Quincy on September 20th, 1929. He was a graduate of Braintree schools. When in high school he was on the track team and was also a member of the Living Statues where they posed in different positions under colored lights. He enjoyed skiing and going to New Hampshire on the ski team. Later he was a member of the Citizen Band Radio Clerk and Civil Defense Bowling Team. He was an avid fishing and boating fan and had two cabin cruise boats named after his daughters “The Debra Lee” and “The Deb Cherie.” He enjoyed the family beach house in Wareham and swam from the Tempest Knob Beach across the bay to Lewis marina. He was in business with his father and brother, Ralph, and owned a fleet of trucks. They later sold the business to BFI container services where he continued as a driver until his retirement.

He leaves behind his wife Lauraine (Hamel) Spinney of 62 years and his daughters Debra Lee Cutting and Cheryl Ann Scalisi and his grandchildren Renee Bullerwell, Sharon Powers, Jeffery Powers, Jonathan Powers, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was the son of the late Percy and Catherine Spinney and brother Ralph and the late Carol Cowing and Gertrude Spinney.

Len passed away at Rhode Island hospital after suffering from two strokes on August 3rd, 2016.
A private service will be held at the Silva funeral home followed by a short memorial at the gravesite.
