William Asa Newcomb, Jr., age 93, of Chase City, Virginia passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016. He was born on August 14, 1922 in Lunenburg County, VA to the late William Asa Newcomb, Sr. and the late Kate Elizabeth Langford Newcomb. He is survived by two sons, Ronnie Newcomb and his wife Frances of Chase City and William "Bo" Newcomb III and his wife Debbie of Chase City, one daughter, Sharon Hall and her husband C.I. of Drakes Branch and one step-son, Larry Gregory of Chase City. William is also survived by eight grandchildren, Ruth Bradshaw and her husband Lee, Dawn Baker and her husband Jeff, Mary Frances Allen and her husband Lee, Meredith Newcomb, W.A. Newcomb IV, Kate Davis and her husband Dwayne, Rachel Warden and her husband Dave, and Jim Hall and his wife Krista, four step-grandchildren, Devin Turner and her husband Clay, Michael Gregory and his wife Jackie, Allison Yost and her husband Gene and Robin Bass and her husband Jay, eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and devoted caregiver, Judy Bigger. He is predeceased by his wives, Ruth Colgate Newcomb and Esther Gregory Newcomb and nine siblings. Mr. Newcomb is a World War II Army Veteran, life long member of the American Legion Post 43, an Elder of Salem Christian Church and an avid hunter. He is a retired mail carrier and store owner of Drumwright and Newcomb. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 12 p.m. at Salem Christian Church, 4698 Fort Mitchell Drive, Chase City, VA 23924. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 43.
