Obituary

Batson, Robert A – 97, of Brockton, MA, formerly of Duxbury and Concord, Massachusetts passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016. He was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on June 12, 1919, the son of Colin and Sadie (Beal) Batson. Robert graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1942 and then began his career in engineering with RCA. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Lieutenant (JG) aboard the USS Lexington during World War II. After leaving the Navy he held various engineering positions before assuming the role of President/CEO of C.A. Batson Company in the 1950’s and 60’s, a family owned commercial construction business. Under his leadership, many schools and commercial buildings were built in the Brockton, South Shore, and Cape Cod areas.

Robert enjoyed his summers in the coastal town of South Addison, Maine and was an avid painter. He is survived by his four children and their families Pamela & Michael Healey of Lexington, Massachusetts, Cheryl & Douglas Freeman of Richardson, Texas, Paul & Regina Batson of Cohasset, Massachusetts, and Colin & Amanda Batson of Kennebunk, Maine. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Patrick & Tara Healey, Jason & Allen Freeman, Adrian Batson & Lisa LaPlante, and Karen, Kevin, & Scott Batson and their families, including five great grandchildren.

Robert’s family wishes to acknowledge the kind and compassionate care received from his caregivers at St. Joseph’s Manner over the past years. A graveside service for relatives and friends will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, August 11th at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton, Massachusetts.
