Obituary

Pietro A. DeVita passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Seasons Hospice House of Milton on Saturday afternoon. He was 80. Born and raised in Lappano, Cosenza, in the Calabrian region of Italy, he was the son of the late Antonio S. and Nice (Scarpelli) DeVita. He and his family came to the United States in December of 1955. They lived in Charlestown before settling in Somerville where they have made their home for 45 years. A devoted and gentle husband, father and grandfather, Pietro was a strong and hardworking man who provided all he could for his family. He enjoyed a long career at Karas & Karas in South Boston, the nationally renowned glass fabrication company. Though possessed of a strong work ethic, Pietro was at his best with his family and friends enjoying good times and making others happy with his great sense of humor and zest for life. He with Maria left their family a wonderful legacy with their example of marriage, being each other’s rock in good times and through the tough times and ever deepening their love for each other through their years together.

The beloved husband of Maria Carmela (Cesario) DeVita of over 49 years, he was a devoted and courageous father to Nice Greeley and her husband Michael of Chelmsford, Judith Kosakowski and her husband Matthew of Boxborough, Anna Santos and her husband Michael of Melrose, Antonella Muscarella and her husband Joseph of New London, CT. He leaves his loving grandchildren: Jenna, Sarah, Peter, David, Luca and Joey. The dear brother of Elena Carravetta and her late husband Peppino, Maria Greco and her late husband Ugo, Rosetta De Vita, Mario DeVita and his wife Maria, Adelina Scarpelli and her late husband Aldo, the late Michael DeVita and his surviving wife Annunziata and the late Giovanni DeVita and his surviving wife Maria, he also leaves many devoted nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Wednesday from 4 – 8 PM and again on Thursday, August 11 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St Ann Church 399 Medford Street, Somerville, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Pietro's name to Seasons Hospice--Massachusetts, 20 Mall Road, Suite 450, Burlington, MA 01803
