Janet “Rae” (Newhouse) Feeney, 81 of Salem, joined her late husband George C. Feeney on the 16th anniversary of his passing on August 5, 2016, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
At the time of his passing the couple had been married 46 years.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Al and Adeline L (Harris) Newhouse. She was a graduate of Salem High, Class of 1953 and was once voted Miss Salem. She attended the Chandler School of Business in Boston and over the years, she worked as an administrative assistant for several companies including, Surrett Batteries, Attwood & Morrill and Salem State College, Honeywell and Digital Equipment Corporation. She recently retired from Sears Repair Center working as a customer service rep.
Most of Rae’s life was devoted to the loving care of her family, teaching a strong work ethic and family values through example. While her husband George was alive the two were avid golfers and travelled together extensively. Both were active members of the Thompson Country Club and then Tedesco Country Club. Rae continued following professional golf and looked forward to watching all the major tournaments on TV.
She was an exceptional self taught gourmet cook and possessed an enormous collection of cookbooks numbering in the thousands. Rae was a master of throwing family parties that included extended family members over many decades with the most memorable gatherings taking place over Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. There was nothing that Rae couldn’t tackle in the kitchen and her home- made pies were blue ribbon quality. Rae will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
