Elba Ruiz, age 79, of Taunton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She was the beloved wife of the late Francisco Torres who died in 2010. Elba was born on May 26, 1937 in Mayaguel, Puerto Rico to her parents the late Jose Ruiz and Carmen Alequin Ruiz. Mrs. Ruiz worked in a clothing factory for many years and took pride in raising her family. She enjoyed television and loved to go out around the city when it wasn’t cold out. Elba’s favorite thing to do every Monday was have lunch with her daughter Elba at Hibachi Sushi Buffet in Raynham.
Family was everything to Elba and that shined bright in the love she gave to her children; Edwin Heyliger of New York, Edward Torres of Taunton, Elba Torres of Taunton and the late Carmen Segarra. She was a proud grandmother of 12 and had many great grandchildren. Mrs. Ruiz is survived by her sisters; Theresa Ruiz and Olga Ruiz and her brothers; Mario Ruiz, Raymond Ruiz and Jose Ruiz. She is also reunited with her 5 siblings her predeceased her. Elba also leaves behind her best friend; Luz Velazquez of Taunton.
Visiting Hours to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend will be on Monday, August 15th from 9:00 to 11:00am at the Taunton Memorial Funeral Home 8 Crapo St (Off Route 140, Tremont St.) Taunton. Elba’s funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00am in the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton.
