Obituary

Joseph M. Ruggieri passed away peacefully at the Courtyard Nursing Care Center of Medford. He was 91. Born and raised in Boston’s North End he lived most of his life in the West End. An Army veteran of World War II, Joseph earned four Battle Stars for his service in Europe. He served in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge under General Patton. After his discharge, Joseph worked for many years at the famed Phillips Drug at Charles Circle in Boston’s West End as the night manager. He was a kind man who enjoyed time with family and friends.

The son of the late Joseph and Albina (Ciampa) Ruggieri, he is survived by his sister Phyllis Crowley of the North End and many devoted nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Vincent and his sister Lucia Picceri.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 10 at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph Church, 68 Cardinal O'Connell Way, Boston. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. The procession will gather at 9:30 at the funeral home. Calling hours will be Tuesday, August 9 from 4 - 8 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford.
