Obituary

Maria Kijek, 54, of New Bedford died July 23, 2005 at home after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Southern Poland, daughter of the late Piotr and Stefania Kijek, she came to the United States at the age of 12 leaving behind her entire family. Here in the United States, she lived with her beloved American mother and father, Eugenia Noga of New Bedford and the late John Noga.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.
Miss Kijek was formerly employed as a social worker with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 28 years until her retirement.
She was a graduate of New Bedford High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth and her Master of Arts degree from Assumption College.
Miss Kijek was a great lover of cats, nature and a frequent visitor of her beloved Poland.
Survivors include her American mother; two brothers, Frank Kijek and Andy Kijek, both of Poland; a sisters, Zofia Zawislak of Poland; and many beloved family and friends.
She was the sister of the late Eugene Kijek.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Mass at St. Mary's Church, Dartmouth, Friday, August 12th at 11 AM. Burial will be in Poland.
Visiting hours are omitted.
