Obituary

James M. Cassidy, 73, of Derry, NH, died unexpectedly Wednesday August 3, 2016 surrounded by his family at Parkland Medical Center in Derry. He was born in Derry on November 12, 1942, a son of the late Leonard Cassidy and Hazel (Hamilton) Zoerb, and had been a lifelong resident. Jim was employed as a firefighter for the Town of Derry for 23 years and retired as Captain in 1991. Following retirement, he worked for the Town of Derry Highway Dept. Jim was an avid fisherman and hunter, and he enjoyed teaching the sport to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lillian (Carter) Cassidy of Derry, his son, Michael Cassidy and wife Nina of Londonderry, NH; three daughters, Wendy Pare and husband Mark of Estero, FL, Wanda Picco and husband Scott of Londonderry, Sharon Cassidy and husband Barry Mazzaglia of Londonderry; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his sister, Mary Jane Weber and husband Richard of Salem, NH; his brother, Leonard Cassidy and wife Virginia of Manchester, NH; his brother in law, Richard Quimby; as well as several nieces, nephews, and his constant companion PJ his Pug. He was predeceased by his mother Hazel Zoerb on July 24, 2016, and his sister, Sheila Quimby.

Calling hours were held on Sunday, August 7th from 2pm – 6pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services were held on Monday at 10:00 am in the funeral home. The burial followed in Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Professional Firefighters of Derry, IAFF Local 4392, PO Box 757, Derry, NH 03038, or to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
