Maureen A. (Telford) Carlsen, 71, of New Bedford died Tuesday August 2, 2016 at St. Anne's Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Robert H. Carlsen, Jr.
Born in Acushnet, the daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Smith) Telford, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
Mrs. Carlsen was formerly employed as a medical clerk at Parkwood Hospital. In her retirement she volunteered at Coastline Elderly for many years.
For many years she participated in the Perpetual Adoration at Our Lady's Chapel in New Bedford. A very generous woman, she enjoyed giving to various international charities to help people around the world. She also enjoyed crocheting and donated many of the items that she made to churches or elderly organizations.
Maureen was the matriarch of her family and enjoyed any time spent with her relatives. She loved cooking, entertaining, and hosting all of her family's events and holiday parties.
Survivors include two children, Michael J. Sears and his wife Kelley, and Lynne E. Sears, all of New Bedford; her brother, Charles G. Telford, Jr. of New Bedford; a granddaughter, Melissa M. Sears of New Bedford; many nieces and nephews, including Thomas T. Telford, Jr. and Brian and Shane Dakin; and her beloved dog, Ozzy.
She was the sister of the late Diane Moura and Pamela Godshall.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
