Obituary

James Michael Dewire, of Cambridge, went home to the Lord July 30, 2016, with his family and the compassionate and incredibly kind caregivers and volunteers at the Hospice Unit of the Bedford V.A. Hospital by his side.

Son of the late Thomas A. and Mary L. (Balfe) Dewire, he is survived by his siblings Mary Louise, Thomas and Frances. Jim also has 2 nephews: Neil and his wife Jody, and their daughters Samantha and Ava; Mark, who is also his Godchild, and his companion, Dr. Marjory Hulnick.

A lifelong parishioner of St. Paul’s Church, Jim graduated from St. Paul’s Grammar School and later from Cambridge High and Latin. During those high school years, he was a coxswain for Riverside Boat Club on the Charles River. He and his brother Tom both rowed for Riverside. Jim went on to Boston College, graduating in 1956. Shortly after, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Kentucky, Texas and Colorado. He was honorably discharged in 1958 and then began a career with the U.S. Postal Service that spanned 53 years. He was stationed in Arlington, Belmont and the General Mail Facility in Boston.

Burial will be private. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Bedford V.A. Chapel on Friday, August 5th. 2016 at 11:30 Am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
