Doris R. (Masson) Gallagher, 91, passed away peacefully at home Friday, July 22, 2016 surrounded by her loving family after a period of declining health. She was the devoted wife of the late Bernard F. Gallagher, with whom she celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Born in Fairhaven, the daughter of the late Alphonse and Berthe (Damm) Masson, she lived in New Bedford Before moving to Brookdale Dartmouth Village in 2014, where she enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a homemaker and a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
Mrs. Gallagher led a quiet life and worked for a brief period at Sacred Heart Home as a nurse's aide. She recently has a short stay there to build up her strength. She loved going on cruises with her husband and her siblings and also enjoyed trips to various casinos with her sisters.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Compassionate Care Hospice, 2PY at Sacred Heart Home, and Dogwood Cottage at Brookdale Dartmouth Village for their care and kindness these past few months.
Survivors include her two daughters, Sheila Gallagher and her companion Daniel Shea of New Bedford, and JoAnn Gisborne of Englewood, FL and Dartmouth; a son, Michael Gallagher and his wife Rosemary of New Bedford; a brother, Roger Masson and his companion Linda Guilbeault of Acushnet; her sister-in-law, Tessie Reale and her husband Emile, and brother-in-law, Stephen Gwozdz; a four grandchildren, Heidi Abendroth of Swampscott, Jane Charron and her husband Jamie of Falmouth, ME, Shawn Gallagher and his fiancée Cristina of New Bedford, and Brooke Gallagher Holtan of New York, NY; two great-grandsons, Camden and Jackson Charron; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Bernard Gallagher, Jr., grandmother of the late Jason Gallagher and Steven Abendroth, Jr., mother-in-law of the late David Gisborne, and sister of the late Camille Loria, Gilberte Domingos and Blanche "Bunny" Gaj.
