Thomas Goode, age 78, of Barnstable and formerly of Weymouth passed away after a long illness on Friday July 29, 2016. Tom was born, raised, and educated in Mission Hill section of Boston where he worked as a young boy selling papers in front of both the Braves and Sox Field. He joined the Marines at the age of 17 where he served in Lebanon in 1957-58. He returned home and soon after married his wife of 56 years, Carla, who Tom grew up with. They settled in Weymouth where they raised their family until the last ten years when Tom and Carla retired to Barnstable. Tom enjoyed his work as a letter carrier in the Weymouth Landing area for 35 years and was also a union steward for the post office. Tom was active in the Weymouth community coaching farm league, Pop Warner, and even being elected to the Planning board in the 1970’s when he participated in the planning and creation of the Weymouth Herring Run.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Carla Goode (Mahoney) of Barnstable, his loving children Gary Goode and his wife Susan of Hanson, Thomas Goode and his wife Tracy of Weymouth, Brian Goode and his wife Cathleen of Rockland, John Goode and his wife Kim of Rockland, and Adam Goode and his wife Coleen of Whitman. He is also the cherished grandfather to fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and is the devoted brother to eight living siblings and three late siblings.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours for Tom on Tuesday August 2, 2016 from 4-8 PM at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth, MA. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 10AM on Wednesday for a Celebration of Life prior to the Funeral Mass in honor of Tom that will be held at 11AM at St. Francis Xavier Church in S. Weymouth. Interment will immediately follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Weymouth. Donations in memory of Tom may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation at 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509 New York, NY 10018.
