Obituary

Charles R. “Chuck” Adelsberger, age 81, a long-time resident of Winchester, passed away on July 30, 2016. He was the beloved husband for 42 years of the late Elisabeth (Morris) “Betty” Adelsberger until her death in 2002.

Born in Houtzdale, PA, he was the son of the late John R. and Claire E. (Kelley) Adelsberger. He was a graduate of LaSalle University, and worked for Wyeth Laboratories in Andover for many years. In his spare time, aside from busy family time and activities of their seven children, which his son Chuck said was akin to “corralling the kids”, Mr. Adelsberger enjoyed reading and woodworking. He built a bunkhouse in their back yard and finished the basement in their home.

Chuck also enjoyed music, particularly the “Oldies”, and was a member of the choral group at the Jenks Senior Center in Winchester. He was a dedicated volunteer of the Mission of Deeds, and often drove the truck to deliver and pick up furniture. Mr. Adelsberger was an active member of St. Mary’s Church, where he served on the Peace and Social Justice Committee and was a Eucharistic Minister.

Chuck is survived by his children: Marie Boland and husband Michael of Winchester, Chuck Adelsberger and wife Ann Marie of Wrentham, Joe Adelsberger and wife Eileen of Tewksbury, Lisa Adelsberger and her late husband Ciaran O'Cruadhlaoich of Winchester, Ann and Julie Adelsberger, both of Somerville, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Patty Adelsberger. He was also the dear brother of Margaret Parisi, Dorothy Krewson, and James Adelsberger, all of PA, and the late Juliet Gannon, Thomas, John, William and Claire Adelsberger and Josephine Barnett. He was the devoted “Pop-Pop” of Michael and Patricia Costello, Jenna, Annie and Joe Adelsberger, Katie and Danny Adelsberger and Mairead NiCruadhlaoich. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Friday, August 5th from 4-8PM, and again on Saturday, August 6, at 9AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 10AM. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in Chuck’s memory may be made to the Mission of Deeds, 6 Chapin Ave. Reading, MA 01867 or Ovations for the Cure, 79 Main St. – Suite 202, Framingham, MA 01702. www.ovationsforthecure.org.
